Advantis DNA: Empowering a multi-generational workforce towards a more inclusive future

Advantis DNA Launch Event :

The article discusses Advantis, the transportation and logistics arm of Hayleys PLC, and its initiative called "Advantis DNA," which aims to empower and amplify the voice of its multi-generational workforce. This initiative is geared towards reshaping and transforming the organization in response to the rapidly changing world.

Advantis Group Managing Director Ruwan Waidyaratne highlighted the need for a structured effort to integrate young professionals and new generations into the organization. He emphasized that the company needed to align with their aspirations and adapt to the evolving nature of work. The Advantis DNA initiative signifies the company's commitment to change and its dedication to empowering its employees for growth and success. This initiative is also designed to anticipate future cultural shifts, with regular pulse checks and cultural re-evaluation every three years.

The launch of Advantis DNA is the culmination of a 20-month-long program that involved extensive employee consultation. This consultation process engaged over 2,300 employees through 17 cultural surveys and 19 leadership workshops across Advantis teams in Sri Lanka and globally. The goal was to understand organizational bias, leadership preferences, employee management, criteria for success, and other cultural elements. This understanding informed the creation of a blueprint for a company-wide cultural transformation, where employees would receive the necessary training, resources, and encouragement to achieve their full potential.

Sagara Peiris, an Advantis Group Management Committee Member, mentioned that the company studied global benchmarks in corporate culture and inclusive organizational practices before initiating this ambitious program. They developed the "Advantis Culture Canvas," which breaks down various cultural elements into defined actions. This approach aims to incrementally shift the organizational culture to align with the aspirations of the workforce.

To introduce the company's revamped values, purpose, philosophy, and spirit to the entire team, Advantis organized an event with gamified experiences. The event included activities and contests that reinforced values and demonstrated how these values could lead to effective actions in all aspects of the business.

In summary, the article highlights Advantis's proactive approach to adapting to the changing workforce landscape by empowering its multi-generational workforce through the Advantis DNA initiative. The organization's commitment to understanding its employees' needs, fostering an inclusive culture, and aligning its values with its actions showcases its dedication to driving growth and success in a dynamic business environment.

    1. I appreciate your interest in the article and your willingness to share your personal experience of multigenerational workplaces. Even though I don't work for Advantis, I can give you some insight into the difficulties that businesses frequently encounter when implementing a multigenerational workforce strategy briefly as in my next post i will be discussing that matter in depth.
Managing multigenerational workforces can be difficult because of the generational differences in communication and working methods. Age groups differ in their preferences for tools, approaches, and expectations. Another challenge is managing technological proficiency, as younger workers are more adaptable while older workers require more training. Technology development must be balanced with a range of learning curves. Other difficulties arise from the different career expectations of younger and older workers, who value stability and growth respectively. It is essential to foster an inclusive culture free from age-based views and to value the experiences of all generations. Despite obstacles, diverse teams are advantageous for companies like Advantis when they deal with these problems head-on.

  7. A good article to read. According to Andrea, (2022) Including a range of ages in your staff adds value to the organization. Younger employees are accustomed to rapidly developing technology and adapting to the changes it drives. In like manner, more mature employees have knowledge from the duration of their experience that can guide decision-making. The collaboration of fresh innovation with wisdom from the experience brings increased productivity.
